Here in Sydney, it’s cold, rainy, and we’re in the midst of another greater city-wide lockdown. You know what that means? Perfect TV binging time!
In my latest story for Macquarie University’s The Lighthouse, I wrote about why modern television loves to revisit and reimagine the Victorian era, and reviewed three of my recent Victorian-era TV binges (including The Nevers, pictured above)!
From Bridgerton to Sherlock, the nineteenth century is a goldmine for exciting stories, characters and social issues to explore and reimagine from a twenty-first-century perspective.
In this story I look at three shows that zero in on Victorian London on the cusp of the modern twentieth century, where tensions between the old world and the new are played out across class, race, gender, technological, scientific and even supernatural boundaries!
