Video: International Scholars at ‘Consuming the Victorians’, Cardiff
The first of two short documentaries filmed and narrated by Kirstin Mills for the BAVS2016 ‘Consuming the Victorians’ conference in Cardiff, Wales. This film traces Kirstin’s footsteps as she travels to Cardiff, Wales and interviews some of the international scholars attending the conference.
About this film: Earlier this year I was generously awarded a travel bursary for Post-doctoral and Early Career Researchers by Cardiff University, which allowed me to travel to Cardiff, Wales to speak at the BAVS 2016 ‘Consuming the Victorians’ Conference – an exciting, dynamic, and bustling conference on the subject of Victorian Literature, History and Culture. Part of the funding conditions were live tweeting the event, and producing two vlogs documenting my experiences. In this first short documentary, I wanted to take advantage of my Australian perspective at such a significant UK conference by interviewing attendees who had, like me, travelled from overseas to attend this event. I wanted to find out what drew them to this particular conference, and what made the experience so special for them. The results were interesting, and I think capture a little of what it was like to be part of this wonderful atmosphere.
My thanks to Cardiff University and the BAVS Committee for awarding me with this Bursary, and for providing me with such an exciting and creative opportunity. It was wonderful to have a chance to merge my academic and creative skills for these films, and I hope you have enjoyed them!
