Kirstin Mills is an Australian artist, writer, designer and researcher. Her worlds of imagination and possibility that she creates with her art and writing, and those that she illuminates through her research, are remembered and treasured by many around the globe that enjoy her fresh and inspiring insights into the world around us. Her artwork particularly is admired and collected all over the globe in the form of art prints and her extensive range of collectibles and giftware, as well as through various products licensed and created by other companies throughout the world. Her artwork has appeared in magazines and books such as Linda Ravenscroft's 'Fairy Artist's Figure Drawing Bible' and continues to inspire and enchant wherever it is seen. Creating art is one of Kirstin's most beloved passtimes, and each piece she creates is imbued with her own particular brand of magic and energy, which she hopes will translate into the lives of those who enjoy her creative output.
Born on the 11th of December, 1984, Kirstin grew up in rural Sydney, Australia, where she still resides, the first child of three in a loving and imaginative family. From a very early age Kirstin began to cherish stories and was thrilled to discover new worlds of imagination behind each page that she feverishly turned, hungry for more. But it was not only these story-book worlds and their beautiful pictures that enthralled her: soon Kirstin began to show a great love of inventing her own worlds, peopled with all sorts of creatures and fantastic beings. Her home became a castle and her world became one filled with endless possibility, encouraged by her supportive family. From the moment that she could hold a pencil, Kirstin began capturing these worlds in her pictures and words and at the age of four, she even sold her first picture at an exhibition!
This love of stories and pictures and other-worlds continued as Kirstin extended her knowledge through school, pursuing her passion into University in 2003 where she studied English Literature. Now wholly consumed by the love of creation and imagination, and especially its powerful link to the roots of the human psyche, Kirstin pursued her research through an honours degree and is currently working towards her Doctor of Philosophy in English Literature.
While she read and studied, Kirstin's art continued the journey with her, decorating her borders and appearing on scraps of paper. Each year she would create handmade greeting cards with her artworks and give them out to family and friends. Though they encouraged and sometimes pleaded with her to publish her artworks and take them into the public domain of gifts and greeting cards, she shyly declined, always placating with a timid 'one day'. Finally, in 2007 she discovered the potential of the internet and launched a small website with a few artworks and a very small range of merchandise. She was very excited to receive her first feedback and sales from complete strangers! Under the encouragement of her family and friends and her growing fan base, Kirstin continued to develop her artworks and her range of merchandise. Expanding into various books, publications and licensed products and merchandise, Kirstin's art is now collected all over the globe as admirers and fans catch on to the refreshing and inspiring mood of Kirstin's artistic creations.
Today she still enjoys creating her art and working on various writing projects while also researching for her PhD thesis. She tutors in English Literature at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia and enjoys watching her various businesses grow as more and more people are touched by the magic and inspiration she so enjoys.
